NEW POSSIBILITY TO CONTROL SWINE-DIARRHEA WITH PHYTO-BIOTIC COMBINATIONS


The swine diarrhea is a frequently occurring disease throughout the world. This disease is present clinically in about one third of total number of animals and in addition, a significant part of pigs, although symptom less, is infected. Due to direct economical losses and high costs of medication, this disease is among most important from economical point of view in worldwide.

Description

The farm had a capacity of 500 sows and 10.500 fattened pigs/year. This farm used three-phase feeding system. In this feeding trial the first phase, the prestarter, was medicated (prevention against Colitis). The feed was prepared in the farm from commercially available components.

The farm was heavily infected with disentery. Disentery was observed even in piglets and in sows in farrowing house. In addition to dysentery (Brachyspira hyodisenteriae) ileitis (Lawsonia intracellularis) was also present.
